The Pender Island Food Bank was established more than 25 years ago to serve all Pender residents in need. We are a registered BC Society and registered Canadian charity and a member of Food Banks BC/Food Banks Canada.

We provide food in need all year and at Christmas operate Santa’s Sac that provides gifts for children at need and food hampers or gift certificates for Penderites in need.

We are an all volunteer-run organization with more than 20 amazing community members and countless other supporters who help us on special activities, events, or through charitable giving.

We rely on donations of gifts of food and money from community members and local businesses, Tru-Value Spirit Board points, pet food donations from PAWS, and support from local businesses and residents. Our membership in Food Banks BC/Canada also enables us to receive funds from e.g., CBC Food Banks day (we received more than $13,000 from the 2023 Food Banks day) and from other Food Banks BC activities. We also participate in a Food Salvage program supported by Vancouver Island businesses.

While we are an independent, non-religious organization located in the upper back of the St. Peter’s Anglican Church hall we are very grateful that the Church donates the space to the Food Bank and provides additional in-kind supports.

The Food Bank is open 10-12 Friday’s.

The Pender Island Food Bank Society gratefully acknowledges that our activities take place on the unceded territory of the W̱SÁNEĆ people. S’Dayes, now also known as Pender Island, is translated as wind drying and referred to the wind drying of salmon. These islands have been a place of abundant natural food resources and residents continue to support local food production and redistributing that food to those in need.
